UPCOMING DATES

November 5 – 18, Tour of Poland

60 years after the Dave Brubeck Quartet became the first American jazz group to tour Poland in 1958, the Darius Brubeck Quartet will recreate the original multi-city tour. Details are still pending confirmation and will be posted here soon.

Wednesday November 21

Darius Brubeck Quartet

7.30pm, Kings Place, King's Cross, London

Darius Brubeck tips his hat to the family legacy, with his father’s hits acting as the jumping off point for new music that is in part inspired by years working in South Africa – an appropriate contribution to Kings Place’s year of Time Unwrapped. Saxophonist Dave O’Higgins has long been one of Britain’s finest, and bassist Matt Ridley and drummer Wesley Gibbens complete a fine quartet whose melodic, spontaneous, rhythmic and engaging music is the hallmark of a band reflecting on its ten-year history.

Darius Brubeck in Conversation about Time Out,

2.30 Kings Place, Hall Two
90 York Way,
London,
N1 9AG

On Sunday Darius Brubeck will be discussing Time Out, the album containing the hits 'Take Five' and 'Blue Rondo a la Turk', tunes recognized even by people who claim not to have heard any jazz in their lives. The story of this album of 'originals' produced in the golden era of 'standards' reveals the interplay of musical inspiration, record-business politics and commercial success. Time Out basically re-wrote the rules for all time.

Piano Passions concert at Howard College Theatre on Friday, April 6th, 19h00

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at UKZN is proud to present a special edition of the ever-popular Piano Passions concerts, which are characterized by a program of short sets by formidably talented pianists. This concert is a belated birthday concert for Professor Darius Brubeck who turned 70 last year. He headlines a roster of former students and highly individual piano stylists including Melvin Peters, Andile Yenana, Neil Gonsalves, Nishlyn Ramanna, Debbie Mari and Burton Naidoo.

The concert will be held at the Howard College theatre so as to enjoy use of our recently refurbished Steinway pianos. Admission is R100, R80 for pensioners and R50 for students. All proceeds accrue to the Ronnie Madonsela scholarship which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
